People's Artist of Russia Valery Sheiman and his students will present the production of the satirical comedy of the Polish playwright Gabrieli Zapolskaya.
Written by the author at the end of the 19th century, this play from the very first production was a tremendous success throughout Europe. Since then, more than a hundred years have passed, but the "Moral of Pani Dulska" is still murderous with its satire. This play is incredibly relevant nowadays, when they say one thing, they do something else. Double morals destroy the psychology of the human soul. Behind external respectability are hidden petty bourgeois interests, self-interest and militant immorality.
Valery Sheiman about the play:
Gabriela Zapolskaya wrote the play Moral of Pani Dulskaya in 1906, when in Russia the events of the revolution only died down. It was a time of turbulent socio-political life: the reactionary reactionary head tried to strangle everything progressive in the country. The bright, topical play was enthusiastically accepted by the public and successfully took place on the stages of all European capitals. Especially popular is the "Moral of Pani Dulskaya" was in Russia ...
A hundred years ago in our country there was a whole social stratum of philistines. What is philistinism, what is its essence? It is based on a double morality: one truth for oneself and another for the rest. And now everything that happens in society, when we think one thing, we say something else, but we do the third, making the play especially relevant. Double morality is now a norm in both public and international life. Now there are already not even double, but triple moral standards. Philistinism develops wavy, sometimes flourishing, sometimes dulled, depending on the historical situation. The last 20 years there has been a renaissance of philistinism, which comes from the interpersonal to the interstate level. By the way, scientists have found out that a modern person, on average, lies 18 times a day without good reason! Lying enslaves the society, does not allow it to develop in the right direction.
We tried to solve the play "The Morals of Pani Dulskaya" in the genre of petty-bourgeois tragicomedy. The idea that philistinism lies in each of us, I want to conduct through all the characters of our performance. All of them are infected with philistinism, even the 12-year-old girls, with the mother's milk, absorbed its essence! "I was already a small bourgeois in the womb," says one of the protagonists of the play. A sad and somewhat tragic farce ... Philistinism is a terrible phenomenon. Carried to the absolute, it is extremely cruel, leads to violence, fascism, to planting its own specific morality.
The clear and many times proclaimed truths of Ecclesiastes, unfortunately, become banal. But to remind us of simple norms of behavior is always necessary, because in the hectic life we sometimes spare ourselves, sometimes we forgive ourselves. This softness is the philistinism. Live by simple and clear rules - it's so easy, but so hard ...
