Since April in the repertoire of the Mayakovsky Theater there will be another play on Alexander Ostrovsky's playwriting. This time the comedy "Mad Money".

Moscow. The beginning of the seventies of the nineteenth century: the time of reform and change. The alignment of forces in the country is changing. The aristocracy enjoys life on a grand scale, cares only about the search for continuous sources of happiness, that is, rabid money. At that time, industrialists and businessmen are becoming more influential, and money for them is a springboard into a higher society, an instrument of power.

On the relevance of the play can not be said - money, like the thirst for a beautiful life, has always been one of the most important motivators. Most of the heroes of the play are representatives of the ruined Moscow nobility: they still go in carriages, drink champagne, keep servants, but it's all in debt. Whereas the nascent bourgeois, on the contrary, think about "how to not get out of the budget".

"In our time, it's very possible to get rich," says Vasilkov, one of the main characters in the play, an ambitious entrepreneur. Stranger and provincial, he maniacally in love with the rich Moscow beauty Lydia, as, indeed, the whole of Moscow's nobility. For Lydia and her mother in an era of tumultuous shifts, when all their acquaintances are surrounded by debts and credits, and the father is ruined, the main thing is to preserve the situation and "life with pleasures." The only way to do this is to get a fortune, that is, "get married successfully." Vasilkov is obsessed with Lydia, and Lydia is obsessed with money. And for Vasilkov to achieve "a bright life and happiness," and Lydia, finally, with a head to dive into "brilliance and insane luxury," one of them two will have to make concessions or change their convictions.

In the play of the Mayakovsky Theater, there is no didactic teaching and no moral teachings. They try to show live people on stage and try to understand their human essence.
