The ballet "Giselle" by the French composer Adolphe Adam is a pearl of the classical repertoire, perhaps the most famous ballet performance in the world.
The plot of the ballet is based on an old Slavic legend about the Wilis girls who died from unhappy love. They, having turned into magical creatures, dance to death by passers-by. Such is their revenge for their ruined life.
"Giselle" appeared during the heyday of romanticism in European art and played a huge role in the further fate of this trend in musical theater.
