The staging in the genre of historical drama is a synthesis of various theatrical techniques. Sergei Prokhanov plays chess games in which the heroes move in the rhythm of a burning salsa and sparkling like champagne of a French chanson, sometimes beat against the “bare rocks” of Schubert’s music and plunge into the mystical musical worlds of Boris Grebenshchikov and Sergey Kuryokhin. In the original and in its own unique theatrical history, the stages of the famous “duel” are filigree intertwined with biographical facts and love lyrics.
The elegant and charming life-giver of Capablanca walked through life easily and lightly, as if dancing. Russian nobleman Alexander Alekhine had to go through many trials, but he always believed in victory.
They were opposites - like Mozart and Salieri. But one thing united them. The age of these two great chess players turned out to be bright, but fleeting, like the life of delicate scarlet poppy flowers.
