Director Anton Fedorov, a student of Yuri Pogrebnichko, explores the topic of emptiness and its nature on the example of one of the most famous plays of Gogol and tries to find a new language for conversation on a topic familiar to everyone.
The well-known words of the play are used rather as sound, the text remains unchanged, but is cleared of any historical circumstances and loses its original meaning before our eyes.
Anton Fedorov: “All the worst, like the most beautiful, we create with our own hands. In fact, it is clear: this is nothing. There is only emptiness. We wanted to rethink the classic text in this particular way, clearing it from any historical circumstances and everything else. Try to look at a classic play as an eternal topic: the topic of emptiness. Because right now, today, in my opinion, we are closest to feeling this emptiness. And I would like to express it in modernity, in modern language. ”
** Fragments of Oleg Karavaichuk's interview are used in the performance.
