Adina, a sweet and whimsical coquette, rejects, as a rule, those who love her. The naive Nemorino sighs and admires Adina, vainly trying to express her feelings to her. But the brilliant uniform of Sergeant Belcore is a success, and Adina promises to marry him. But the trumpet blows and the cunning Dulkamar appears. What does not he offer the assembled crowd! With a shy hope, Nemorino is interested, does Dulcamara have a love drink? Of course, the "air seller" has everything.
Having received in the form of a miraculous elixir an ordinary wine, Nemorino immediately feels its effect on himself. The apparent indifference, which he now depicts, makes Adin pay attention to him. Furthermore! With Nemorino, now all the girls are flirting around! Nemorino and Adina simply do not know that the rumor of a rich inheritance that Nemorino left uncle died. The increased attention of rivals makes Adin jealous, and Nemorino sees that it seems not indifferent to it. But the wedding with Belcore is already appointed! Maybe it will help another portion of a love drink? To have money for his purchase, Nemorino is enrolled in the soldiers. And finally, Adina finds out that for one of her favorable views, Nemorino is ready to sell his freedom and risk his life. Only now she begins to understand the price of true love. It's time to act decisively! And Adina buys Nemorino from the soldiers Belcore. Everything settles and ends with a holiday, and Dulcamara, of course, ascribes all the wonderful surprises with love and an unexpected inheritance to his cunning art.

The vitality of situations, the vividness of the provisions of this work allowed the directors of the play to postpone the time of action for a century ahead, as well as jokingly attribute to the names of heroes the names of famous figures of Italian art.
