The play staged by Andrey Gorbaty Jr. based on the poem by A.S. Pushkin
The famous poem by Alexander Pushkin "Ruslan and Lyudmila" can be considered known only formally. In the vast heritage of the greatest author of Russia "Ruslan and Lyudmila" are lost for posterity, they look like ornamental folklore, yielding even in this regard to the "Bakhchisarai Fountain" and "Prisoner of the Caucasus".
The production of the play "Ruslan and Lyudmila" directed by Andrei Gorbaty Jr. returns to the modern viewer one of the best Pushkin's poems, unjustly forgotten and undeservedly translated into the category of fairy tales for preschoolers.
In Ruslana and Lyudmila, the author himself takes an active part in the action - Pushkin is both an author, a participant, and a spectator of the process, before our eyes the poet draws images from epics, legends and fairy tales and transforms them into living, amusing characters, in fact very conditionally related to the "legends of deep antiquity." The magic of creativity, the joy of inspiration - one of the fundamental themes of the performance.
Ruslan and Lyudmila is an archetypal story about a lone hero who entered into an unequal battle with unknown, significantly superior forces and emerged victorious from it. The plot contains a powerful villain, a strong and brave heroine, a cowardly traitor, a cruel warrior, a naive romantic, a wise mentor, an insidious beauty, the plot contains battles, pursuits, leisurely conversations about the meaning of life, romantic scenes, murders, battles with invaders - text, written two centuries ago, without prejudice to the author's poetics, forms the basis of a fantastic action movie.
However, it is not the exploits of superheroes that are the key topic for the director, but love. Love is like rock, like fate, like the power of fate. Not because Ruslan gets Lyudmila because he is a hero, but becomes a hero because he really loves. Rogdai, Ratmir and Farlaf do not lose because they are not ready for exploits - but for exploits they are not ready because they do not love the princess, but that possession of her can bring them. And Lyudmila herself is not a classic "lady in trouble", she also fights for her love, as best she can, or maybe she is quite successful. Love, sincere, passionate and unselfish, turns out to be the force that drives the world. And only those who remain faithful to their love can one day save the world.
