St. Petersburg Theater "Rock Opera" presents the world famous rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar"
The premiere took place in February 1990 at the DK im. Lensovet in St. Petersburg. One of the most famous works of the rock opera genre, which does not need not only advertising, but often even a presentation. In 1990, the Rock Opera Theater was the first in Russia to stage this opera. It is symbolic that the premiere of the performance practically coincided with the 1000th anniversary of the Orthodox Church, and the performer of the role of Christ Vladimir Dydenistov received a blessing for the role. The rock opera is performed in Russian, translated by Grigory Kruzhkov and Marina Boroditskaya. The stage version of the work differs from the traditional reading of a rock opera, it is closer to the Holy Scriptures. This is partly due to the fact that from the very beginning the performance was produced under the auspices of the Orthodox Church, and partly due to the peculiarity of the translation, because despite the absolute equirhythmicity and, for the most part, the complete coincidence of the Russian and original texts, many of the turns in it are taken from the Gospel almost literally! Born out of a combination of seemingly incongruous genres, the performance amazes with the power of impact - often young people, having watched the performance of the Rock Opera Theater, come to Church. According to his memoirs, having watched the premiere of the play, one clergyman said in admiration, addressing the artists: “We cannot force young people to come to church, but you can return Faith to them!”
