How many of them - fast, quiet, cheerful, sonorous, cold, clean, deep, silvery rivers, rivers, streams, rivulets - well-known and nameless witnesses of human destinies, human happiness and sorrow! The girls entrusted their dreams to the rivers, guessing on the wreaths about their betrothed, the tears of a bride forever parting with carefree girlhood were likened to the river streams, tears spilled the mothers and wives of recruits leaving for the army - maybe forever, there were lovers by the river, words sounded over the river goodbye, the river carried away happiness, but brought hope for a new meeting ...

It is difficult to find a folk song that does not mention the river. And how many songs have been composed about the Volga - a truly great river, the mother of Russian rivers!
