"The Case of Elagin's Cornet" is a work of the great Russian Nobelite Ivan Alekseevich Bunin, who himself ironically defined the genre of this work: "it looks like a tabloid novel." The story of the insane love of an actress and a hussar, ending with a suicide, becomes a reason for thinking about the futility and devastation of life, interrupted by the nonsense of death. Two lost souls without support, without deep interpenetration, fly on the surface of feelings and, together with the search for love, they search for death, indulging each other in this sinister game and, playing in orgies, part with the life-likeness of their invented happiness. Bunin seems to lead the roll of his heroine Sosnowska with Tolstoyan Anna Karenina, whose end on the rails is no less terrible and symbolic. Life is believed in love, and love does not forgive a painful craving for suicide, for it is called to build happiness, and not destroy it. Our theatrical production is an attempt to present and analyze the origins of vice, to make visible the fates and characters of Bunin's prose - free and majestic, calling for pity and sympathy, even for those who have never found themselves in the confusion of life.

In our today's day, the same diseases bloom in a magnificent color - all kinds of temptations are tempted and dragged by weak youths into black holes of hopelessness, where glamor does not save, and timelessness (new "cursed days") asserts itself only in questionable forms of total enjoyment - the main substitute Meaning of life. Are not we like our unhappy ancestors? .. They are very much alike! ..

Reading and reading to Bunin today, we see his historical correctness and foresight: spiritual hell is deadly and truly dangerous to modern man.
