“ It would seem that so many adaptations and productions were based on "Eugene Onegin"! It is not often possible to see something original in a positive sense. But the director Natalya Semenova and the artists of the SAMi Theater managed to show the whole depth and ambiguity of the novel in poetry, thanks to the original video, the music of the famous orchestra of Alexei Aigi and, of course, the brilliant cast. Four star artists: Daniil Strakhov, Sergey Shnyrev, Sergey Chonishvili and Irina Pegova, created unique images of the main characters of the novel. Daniil Strakhov - Onegin, who begins his role, suddenly, by reading his own letter to Tatyana - a scene from the end of the novel ... And then for an hour and a half the viewer will watch how exactly the venomous and cold dandy reached such a recognition. Sergei Shnyrev appears before us in the classical image of Lensky - a simple-hearted romantic with a butterfly on his neck. He is so naively in love with Olga, so sincerely considers Onegin his friend, that it is painful to watch him, knowing what his end will be. Irina Pegova seems completely unlike Pushkin’s Tatyana in type, more likely Olga. But, when she begins to speak on behalf of her heroine, BELIEVE her. Here she is - a young girl who writes her first love letter, here is the unfortunate lover rejected by Onegin, here she is frightened by a nightmare about the murder of Lensky, and here she is an adult princess. The image of Tatiana, perhaps, receives the greatest development in the novel, she is the only one who changes dramatically, while remaining herself. And, of course, the main character is the Author, whom Sergey Chonishvili introduced to us. How much is Pushkin in him, and how much is Sergey? Echidna, harsh, mocking, but so loving his characters and text. He allows himself to treat him very freely, throwing out pieces, inserting his remarks, brief explanatory reports or indecent quatrains - he screams, almost whispers. Together with the magical music of the orchestra, it is the author who helps to immerse himself in the plot as much as possible. It is noteworthy that the text of the novel was read almost entirely (in an hour and a half!), But did not like that several important points were not mentioned. Firstly, a visit to Tatyana Onegin’s library when she begins to realize that it’s not at all as perfect as she imagined, and her love becomes less “fanatical”. Secondly, the fact that Olga, after the death of Lensky, quickly married a visiting officer. And, thirdly, Tatyana’s transformation from a modest district girl into a “legislator of the hall”. Of course, it’s not enough to fit everything, but it seems to me that the extra 10-15 minutes in this case would go to the logic of the performance only to the benefit. In general, I am delighted, the audience around me, even the teenagers, was also delighted, the artists were called for an encore twice and presented a lot of flowers :) I highly recommend everyone to go: you are unlikely to re-read the novel in adulthood, and here to listen in such a wonderful performance and discover its new facets - I recommend.

Perhaps for someone the author’s interpretation is absurdity and stupidity, for someone a new life, attracting young viewers. Should the theater be conservative or modern? These and many other questions are raised by art critics and literary critics. What is my opinion? I attended the fashion show "Onegin" staged by the SAM Theater in the House of Music. A little ambiguous impression arose immediately after watching, but now I understand that this version is boring, interesting and unusual, a love story taking place today. And the school generation is happy to watch this performance, which in the new reading is a kind of best seller for adolescents of this era. Thus, the classic does not die and does not gather dust on the shelves of libraries, withstands the test of time. With great joy I remembered the lines of the poem, which I had learned by heart, but did not open from childhood: "Who are you, my guardian angel, Or an insidious tempter? But so be it! My fate from now on I hand you the tears, Before you I pour tears, Your protection I beg ... "These simple, timeless words, how many feelings they evoke now, when you live them meaningfully and savor each word, when you do not need to cram them into tomorrow's lesson in literature. After all, Pushkin is also nostalgia for school and childhood. Talented actors known for their films act as Onegin, Lensky, Tatyana, and Author. Sergey Chonishvili is incomparable, Irina Pegova is spontaneous and attractive, Sergey Shnyrev is ardent, and Daniil Strakhov is simply beautiful. No decorations (only a huge screen at the back of the stage). No costumes. Actually, there is no obvious scenography either. There are four actors in quite modern clothes who stand on the stage more than they sit and sit, more than they walk. And the text, the same Pushkin, familiar to the last comma. It would seem that. But no! The text (both Pushkin and the Author) is played with the viewer: they sometimes beckon the familiar “My uncle of the most honest rules ...”, then they confuse, starting from the end, mixing scenes and events, then they make me feel lost in the maze of phrases ( ? Or Pushkin, but I do not remember? Or not "EO"? And who said that ?!). And what a face! What voices! These people do not need costumes and makeup, they know a different secret of reincarnation. Irina Pegova, Sergey Chonishvili, Daniil Strakhov and Sergey Shnyrev exist in the “gave a free novel” and in our reality. They conquered the hall immediately, not giving a chance to escape for a minute, from the first to the last word spoken from the stage. And, of course, music. This is perhaps the most sought-after work from all Russian classics: films are shot, operas and ballets are staged. The drama theater is also not lagging behind - for a year I saw three performances of “Eugene Onegin” on the stages of Moscow theaters. And here is the musical-poetic composition of the “Commonwealth of Actors, Musicians and ... (SAMI)” which was put by Natalya Semenova. As a result, it was not just the reading of poems in roles to music, but the comprehension of the Pushkin text, reflections on the characters and the fate of the characters. The play sounds not only the text of "Eugene Onegin", but also Pushkin's epigrams, and the poet's comments on the novel. On stage are a brilliant quartet of artists: Sergey Chonishvili (author), Irina Pegova (Tatiana Larina), Daniil Strakhov (Eugene Onegin), Sergey Shnyryov (Vladimir Lensky). And Pushkin is a full-fledged hero here - he comments on the actions of the characters, then enters into a dialogue with them. But not only Pushkin’s characters are present on the stage, but also Alexei Aigi’s group “4'33" "- an integral part of the play and the fifth participant of the performance. B the result is a polyphonic composition enveloping the audience and sucking in the whirlpool of feelings, passions and thoughts. The performance is permeated with admiration and respect for Pushkin’s talent, which is presented here both ironic and sensitive to them, worrying about their heroes. The play takes only an hour and a half, but during this time, the characters of “Eugene Onegin” become closer and clearer to us - they begin to be perceived as our contemporaries, almost like close friends. And indeed for almost two centuries that have passed since the day of the novel's release, people didn’t change much - love, death, loyalty and betrayal worry us just as much as people of the eighteenth century.The fantasy of the director, the skills of the actors, the talent of musicians makes this performance absolutely wonderful and unforgettable.
“ Throughout the performance on stage, the Ensemble "4:33" by Alexei Aigi. These people conquered me! Starting with the fact that each of the performers is incredibly charismatic and ending with how they perform incredibly beautiful music, which can be very useful, it complements this or that scene of the performance. Bow and bravo! About the play. Despite the fact that the author’s text by A.S. Pushkin saved, this is not a classic statement. Rather, the combination of the main fragments of the novel, music, video series, Nabokov’s comments and even a small rap on Pushkin’s poems. The video series, in most cases, was not at all close to me. I suppose the idea was to convey to the audience certain feelings and associations, but my brain stubbornly discarded all this and refused to associate anything. But the association of Pushkin’s image of Onegin perfectly coincided with the image of the artist Daniil Strakhov. Outwardly attractive, serious, stately, proud, at the same time somewhere deeply hidden, but feeling sadness, despair, longing and loneliness. Deadly cocktail! No doubt - this is the true Onegin! But how does Sergey Shnyrev look very courageous to play Lensky? Intelligent, educated, beautiful - yes, philosopher - yes, noble - yes, but “a poet, a thoughtful dreamer” ?, naive ?, “curls black shoulder”? - no, no and NO. Sergey Shnyrev is a good cartoon for eighteen-year-old romance Lensky. The author - Sergei Chonishvili - luxurious, ironic, internally free, with a velvety, pleasant, recognizable voice, also, in my opinion, perfectly matches the image. Irina Pegova, bursting with energy, mischief and pressure, did not seem to me like Tatiana. This is not a timid thin doe, fragile and sad, which Tatiana seems to be. But each director probably has his own vision of the characters. Artists read the text without pathos, without false, nonbanal, with an inner deep understanding. You hear so much! And at the same time, again and again you are convinced that a lot of this novel is “for all times”.
“ When is the performance considered successful? When, after viewing it, I want to become better, more beautiful, kinder, to do something useful. That such an impression on me was made by the play “Onegin” from the creative association “SAMI Theater”. Director Natalia Semenova, a great clever. What is in this performance? Magic and magic. The well-known texts of Pushkin and the unknowns of Nepushkin, the music of talented Alexei Aigi and his ensemble 4'33, the velvety voice of Sergey Chonishvili, the Onegin-Lensky opposition, played by Daniel Strakhov — Sergei Shnyrev, the girlish intonations in Irina Pagovoy’s voice. Behind the actors is a screen on which a video series specially created for the play is being projected. Aigi turns around in his chair with his back to the viewer and follows the image. Time! The screen fades, Aigi swings his bow from the violin sharply, the music stops, Chonishvili scribbles an automatic burst of Pushkin's rhymes, the voices of other actors connect to it and the drama unfolds. This contrast between Onegin and Lensky comes to the fore, so the duel becomes the apotheosis. Why did Onegin kill his friend Lensky, well, why ?? After all, he did not do anything wrong to him. More like the accumulated irritation from the village life, from the lack of work and business, from the lack of a woman who could support, light stress from Tatiana's ingenuous confession and her expectations. And most importantly, from SKUKOTY, everything is boring, nothing is interesting. Fearfully. The performance is very strong, famously twisted. I saw in the hall of teenagers. As a first acquaintance with the work will not work, but more for those who want to be surprised by the new approach to the classic material. Something like this.
“ It was interesting to see talented actors and musicians on stage. Excerpts from the novel were read by Sergey Chonishvili, Daniil Strakhov, Sergey Shnyrev and Irina Pegova. (I played Tatiana on the stage, of course, at school) and dared to compare))). For these nostalgic school memories a special thanks to the # SAMA-Theatre team. But it’s impossible not to see Onegin in Daniel Strakhov. Full compliance with the image of the hero. Onegin, I recognized you.) It is amazing how, like Daniel, without changing suits and make-up, it turns out to change the look during the performance: from a cynical, self-satisfied, well-groomed handsome to an exhausted, suffering, who lost something important in a person's life. Daniel is a very good actor, many years ago he conquered us with his girlfriend Dorian Gray in the theater on Malaya Bronnaya. I was glad to see D. Strakhov in the image of Onegin. And, of course, in the production of "Onegin" is beautiful Author. Mimicry, gestures, intonation, irony ... Voice of Sergey Chonishvili! You can listen to it endlessly. He fascinates, fascinates and immerses in the plot. All the energy from the actor is incredible! When musicians played, he conducted and danced. “ Reading the reviews of the audience, I could not understand why almost all of them were looking for portrait resemblance of actors with characters of the novel and “condemned” the director's choice of Irina Pegova for the role of Tatyana (plump) and Sergey Shnyreva for the role of Lensky (too old). But Daniel Strakhov for all is just the perfect Onegin. But Strakhov disappointed me ... I can not say that it was his fault or the director, but the image of his constrained, without emotional Onegin (even already in love with Tatiana) was so unconvincing !!! I love this actor, I saw his theatrical works (for me he is the best Dorian Gray), but here something, from my point of view, did not work out .... Sergey Shnyrev was just beautiful (with what kind of irony he played the role of an enthusiastic poet Vl. Lensky !!!), but he was offended enough - he was killed in a duel ... I liked Irina Pegova very much, who presented herself in two images of her heroine - a village girl who read French novels and secular ladies. With minimal make-up only intonationally, during the time of the action, it changed simply beyond recognition! Bravo!!! But, first of all, Sergey Chonishvili and Aleksey Aigi "lit"; this performance would not have taken place without them !!! The music of Alexei Aigi and the performance of it by the composer himself and his ensemble provide the emotional intensity of the whole action. From time to time there was just mad energy from the stage !!! Sergey Chonishvili ... Oh, this audible voice heard daily from the TV !!! Oh, this is an unsurpassed skill so free on the stage !!!! “ An unexpected acquaintance with the project "SAMI". Classic in a modern way, but still a classic. It is inexplicable, but charming. Just good actors, just read the text familiar to everyone from school years, simply ... Yes, not everything is so simple. A completely different view of things. A very different musical story. I would recommend visiting this particular setting to schoolchildren in order to understand and feel the beauty of the Pushkin syllable.
“ What can you say about Onegin? And about "Onegin"? :) You will say, Pushkin, and I will say Natalya Semenova - the director of the play "Onegin", which I visited yesterday and the House of Music. And again, I suddenly delighted. This is the second performance of this director. "Hamlet STORY", "Onegin" and still left to visit the "Magic of Music words." In the first performance, I had clear parallels with Onegin, although there were not even hints. Yesterday, this sense of interconnection grew into the conviction that it was a trilogy. I have already watched two performances. One left. Straight as a collection I collect. Guys, I recommend, if possible, go to three performances. Well, two for sure that I visited, I recommend. But, I repeat, things are strong, emotionally complex and make you think later. Children would not recommend to take. I really want to "Magic", there also plays Chonishvili, by the way. I will also go to the concert of Aleksey Aigi and the ensemble "4'33" in May, under whose arrangement these performances take place. For me, in spite of all the passions, he was always something monumental, thorough, unhurried, like long winter evenings by the fireplace. And then suddenly they took and cut off most of the novel, leaving the very thing. A pair of Onegin’s dialogues with Lensky, a pair of Onegin’s monologues, a bit of Lensky, conversations with the author, who as if he hadn’t decided yet whether he would leave the novel or change something, creating the feeling that the novel is happening right here and now. And, of course, two famous monologues of Tatiana! Without them in any way. Not at all. So here. Surprisingly, in this condensed version of the novel fit almost entirely. “ A date with "Onegin" turned out unexpected and exciting. There are probably two main surprises. The first - Pushkin text sounds great, not outdated at all. All household details and archaisms are discarded, left timeless and relevant. The second - the novel is not about what you thought about years ago, when you last read it entirely. And what is the reason - the stage interpretation or personal changes over the past years - I will not judge. Most likely, both. Suddenly, I realized that Onegin was a novel about the horror of idle life, without meaning, without purpose, without work. About how such idleness and laziness of the soul turns into tragedy and death. And the main line was Lensky, not Tatiana. There are four actors and eight musicians on stage. Pushkin - Sergey Chonishvili - wearily cynical. This is of course not Pushkin, but an appropriate and convincingly presented his hypostasis. Lensky - Sergey Shnyrev. In some places it is a young enthusiastic poet with the intonations of the early Yevtushenko, in places - a middle-aged actor, enthusiastically telling about his hero. Tatyana - Irina Pegova. Almost not at all Tatiana, often an actress telling about Tatiana. It is like. Onegin - Daniel Strakhov. The image was not understood, perhaps because Pushkin Onegin turned out to be very unexpected. The stage composition is for me five plus, although someone may be distorted by insertions (I think 10-20% of the text on the stage). The inserts seemed to me not only appropriate, but also contributing to the element of surprise: it is a pity that the sources of the inserts have remained unidentified. I really liked Daniel Strakhov as an empty and cynical Onegin. Indeed, such a polished handsome man could easily turn the head of a romantic country girl, such as Tatyana Larina. And quite differently perceived now, in adulthood, the story of the duel between Onegin and Lensky, which occurred because of such a trifle as Onegin's flirting with Olga. Only 200 years have passed since the writing of the novel, and how society has changed! It is now difficult to even imagine that a man, because of minutely courting his bride, voluntarily went to a deadly risk! After all, the duel of those times is not a joke, then they were shooting almost from ten steps, and at that distance only the blind would not get into the enemy!
