based on the novel by Valentin Kataev

This is a story about a boy who lost all his relatives during the war, but found a second family in the scout regiment.

The main character Vanya Solntsev appears for the first time on the stage as a young lieutenant, his story passes before the audience in memories. Touching and dramatic relationships Vanya with Captain Enakiev and the stern corporal Bidenko are in the foreground, pushing back the battle scenes. The music of Alexander Flyarkovsky, consonant with the songs of the war years, becomes the background of the soldier's life. In front-line songs come alive familiar motives: and overnight stay in the open air, and the unchanged overcoat, and the water from the creek, and, of course, soldier's footcloths. In the final, the screen broadcasts the frames of the festive parade on Red Square in 1945, which alternate with the frames that captured the faces of veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
