Review

Over the past two seasons, the creative tandem of Mindaugas Karbauskis and Marius Ivashkevičius has become very strong. The new performance will be the third joint work of the director and playwright on the stage of the Mayakovsky Theater. If in the center of the plays "Kant" and "Russian novel" were the figures of the great thinkers of the past: Immanuel Kant and Leo Tolstoy - the play "Exile" is addressed to the present and is devoted to the theme of migration. The life of a Lithuanian migrant in the UK resembles a terrible narcotic druggie, and London turns into its dark side, only familiar to outsiders who have moved here. The main character is waiting for a series of feverish encounters and partings, as a senseless attempt not only to find shelter, but also to find oneself again. Here unfolds an inhuman battle for a place in space and time, which never responds and becomes native. Heroes fall into a cruel trap, consisting of irresistible loneliness, incoherent revenge and attempts to find the causes of their own restlessness. The authors of the play raise issues of xenophobia, terrorism, the clash of the West and the East, painful mimicry and the loss of one's own "I" between the two worlds, not one of which never becomes a home.

Long years of emigrant life in London - is it easy? Many had to endure, endure to those who left their homeland, because life is not sugar in a foreign land.

How many copies are broken about that grated fence behind which happiness is hidden: one hero after another is hardened, disappointed in everything, lose themselves ...

Ben Ivanovas, however, did not lose himself. He is endowed with a rare quality: even among absurd circumstances, when it turns out that it is possible to spend the night only in a funeral home, hiding in a coffin, Ben is able to find an imaginary conversationalist and friend - it becomes Freddie Mercury.

And even the beating for Ben is not a reason to despair: there is why to live further, because the one who beat him should be punished. Hence, there was a new meaning of life: the pursuit of an abuser!

And what will happen to the hero after so many years? .. Maybe finding someone who cruelly dealt with him once, Ben will decide on an incredible act - forgiveness? ..

As a person breaks down under the pressure of circumstances - I can understand how a person who has beaten him wants to take revenge, and then after the passage of time, having found him, he no longer feels hatred - too. I can not understand the operation of the name of a famous musician (well, that is, as a marketing ploy - I can!). And I can not understand what the heroism of the protagonist is (sorry for the tautology)? What is the difference between his work of a bouncer in a bar and the work of his friend running like a dog for ducks? Wanted to be a man? Did he become one? In the final, he works as a policeman, living on fake documents, and as soon as the threat of exposure hangs, he disappears, leaving the pregnant wife ... What is he human? In crying over the ashes of a friend? I think the actor Vyacheslav Kovalev has invested more in this work than it is ...

By the way, Zinaida herself seems to be a ray of light in the dark realm of these surrounding her selfish and vile people, she hardly reconciles with the insidious plan of her mother, it is clear how all this fuss for a certain purpose injures her and gives her suffering. But the end shows that all the same it is not so easy to fight and not succumb to the environment, and maybe even living within the human "demons" ... From the actors liked the game of Olga Prokofieva (the main role) - I think in her role she did more of all work, Natalia Filippova in the role of an eccentric and vagabond Farpukhina, who is mistaken for everyone (yes, she seems to be, against the backdrop of a well-bred, living according to the etiquette of light).
