"What are you laughing at? Are you laughing at yourself!" - first pronounced Gogol's Gubernatorial in 1836 from the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater. During the performance, he clapped and laughed a lot, but when he left the box, he said: "Well, playful, everyone has got it, and me - more than all!"

The very situation with the imaginary auditor, prompted Gogol Pushkin - and funny, and ridiculous, and sad at the same time. The birth of absurdity from the spirit of ordinary life, when, with fear of exposing and punishing an important person, they took "an icicle, a rag" - the driving force of a rapidly developing comedy.
