Ave maria
Festive male choir of the Moscow Danilov Monastery
Regent - Georgy Safonov
Choral works by Russian and foreign
composers dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos
Ave Maria - the lamp is quiet,
Four verses are ready in the heart:
Pure virgin, grieving mother,
Your grace has penetrated the soul.
Queen of heaven, not in the glitter of rays,
In a quiet dream appear to her!
Ave Maria - the lamp is quiet,
I whispered all four verses.

For more than two thousand years, mankind has been glorifying the image of the Virgin Mary, the image of inaccessible spiritual beauty and harmony. Artists, poets and composers dedicate their creations to her: "Madonnas" by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and Titian, the Magnificats of Buxtehude and Bach, the famous vocal masterpieces Ave Maria by G. Caccini, C. Gounod and F. Schubert, "Theotokos Virgo, Hail "S. Rachmaninoff combines perfect beauty and chastity. Archangel Gabriel's greetings "Hail Mary" formed the basis of not only Catholic prayer (in the Byzantine rite of prayer Ave Maria corresponds to the Song of the Most Holy Theotokos), but also many musical masterpieces created by composers of different eras and national schools.
The Ave Maria program of the Festive Male Choir of the Moscow Danilov Monastery will present a wonderful wreath of melodies and chants by Russian and foreign composers dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos. These melodies are filled with tenderness and hope, reconciliation, forgiveness and overcoming sorrow. Inspired by an “unspeakable image,” they bring spiritual enlightenment and a blissful mood.
The Danilov Monastery Choir is actually the face of Russian performing arts in the field of church music. The choir singers participate in all festive services and represent Russia at international sacred music festivals. The Festive Men's Choir of the Moscow Danilov Monastery is directed by director Georgy Safonov, a graduate of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, laureate of the First All-Russian Conducting Competition. The choir's repertoire includes more than 800 compositions: the entire spectrum of liturgical music, romances, historical, military-patriotic, folk and drinking songs, as well as domestic and foreign classics.
