Musical performance "From the life of the planets" by Oleg Nesterov and the Megapolis group Gennady Shpalikov / Vladimir Motyl / Andrey Smirnov / Vladimir Chinese Director: Denis Azarov Artist: Olga Nikitina
The play "From the Life of Planets" is a musical dedication to unfinished films of the 60s, to that short era in cinema and in the life of Russia, which we call the "thaw", a sudden breath of freedom. A new cinema was born, a breakthrough followed a breakthrough - the Cannes awards alternated with the Venice prizes, it was a real "golden era" of Russian cinema ...
But suddenly it all ended, freedom turned into a lack of freedom: only at Mosfilm in the fall of 1963 12 films were closed, and by the end of 1968, after the suppression of the Prague Spring, the field of new cinema turned into a grandiose cemetery of unfinished films.
Four unreported films - "The Quay" and "Jump-Hop, the Ceiling Has Fell" by Gennady Shpalikov, "Seven Unclean Pairs" by Vladimir Motyl and "Premonition" by Andrey Smirnov became the heroes of the play staged by director Denis Azarov.
The play "From the Life of Planets" is presented as live music & storytelling - on stage Oleg Nesterov talks about the films that the most talented Soviet filmmakers of the "thaw" were going to shoot, and the group "Megapolis" plays imaginary soundtracks to them. "From the Life of the Planets" is a study of the era when everything worked out, it is a story about great non-embodied plans and their life after death.
