The time of the performance is 1920s. Funny situations, in which the heroes of Kataev fall, give room for the imagination of the director (Semen Spesivtsev) and young artists of the theater. And today cheerful and sincere play Kataeva continues her life on stage, talking about simple and eternal values, about youth and love, about the joy of life. Many things change, but the feelings of a person, the ability to love and the desire to find one's half remain unchanged. The young Soviet republic is building socialism, and there is no place in it for such petty-bourgeois remnants as love triangles. All this philistinism! It's time for the love quadratures of the circle! The heroes of the play are young people. They believe in a bright future, full of expectations and aspirations for great goals. They are young, sincere, only slightly confused in their feelings ... Two comrades - Comrade Abramchik and Comrade Vasya - marry at the same time and secretly marry each other, and bring their chosen ones: Comrade Lyudmilochka and Comrade Kuznetsova to ... a common living space. Two couples begin to build family happiness in one room. Despite the fact that the newlyweds have a common political attitude and working contact, this experience turns into a whole series of comic situations.
