The Cynics of Marienhof is a love affair at a turning point. Moscow, 1918-1924: ideals of the revolution, dictatorship of the proletariat, devastation, civil war, then the NEP. The heroes of the novel are trying to adapt to the rapidly changing reality, but so to the end and do not find their place in the new reality.
The young authors of the play saw in this text about cynical and indifferent to man time, just the opportunity to talk about personality. About how the era breaks a person and he faces himself - he realizes his depravity and his powerlessness.
The performance of the play is a recollection of the protagonist about how his feelings changed and how far he was ready to go in an effort to “make his love eternal” despite hunger, war, new ideals of the era and even death itself.
The performance “Cynics” is a story-reflection on the ultimate love.
