Which of us did not dream to find our “Blessed Island”? And where it will be located - in a small apartment or in your own house on a farm, is not so important. Everyone has the right to happiness, personal happiness, to simple human joys. And no one has the right to invade this world, it seems today - this is a truth that does not require proof. But the heroes of the play "Blessed Island" who fell under the hammer of the revolution, it was difficult to prove that their little world has the right to live independently, that the revolutionary slogans are not clear to them and alien, and that they do not want to obey them. This tragicomic story about the family of Savvat Savelievich Guska, who wanted to save himself from the revolution and found death, was written by Mikola Kulish, a talented Ukrainian playwright who can rightly be put on a par with Kopkov, Erdman, Bulgakov ...
The author honestly stigmatized a prosperous tradesman who claims only to have a calm and well-fed life. In the 37th year he himself was shot. And what is interesting, those whom he branded today seem to us not at all negative characters, but, on the contrary, people who are even funny and somewhat naive, but provoking sincere compassion. Seven daughters of marriageable age grew up in the family of the unlucky Guska, they would marry them in time, and even figure out their own affair, and then there is a revolution that is not interested in such insignificant problems against the backdrop of the ongoing global transformations.
The play, as it happens in real literature, finds its life, sometimes not even supposed by the author. And today this life will arise in the performance of the famous director Mikhail Bychkov, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, winner of the Stanislavsky Prize and his co-author Nikolai Simonov. The world they create is filled with good humor, wise thoughts about the present day, and most importantly, the living feelings of living people.
