“Girl and the Dragon” is an ancient story revived with the help of a dance language about the sacrificial love of the earthly beauty Away and the dragon prince. Saving the Yunnan village and its inhabitants from the terrible fire element, they sacrificed themselves, turning into rain. Loving hearts united forever in the mirror surface of the lake and the mountain river flowing into it and became a symbol of invincible love, sung in folk poetic folklore.
The ballet was staged by the artistic director of the Russian Ballet Theater, People's Artist of the USSR Vyacheslav Gordeev, he is also the author of the libretto and choreography. The music for the ballet was written by a Russian composer of Chinese origin, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Zuo Zhenguan. The basis of his composition is the folk Yunnan song "The River Flows."
