The Dmitry Pokrovsky ensemble, created in 1973 by D.V. Pokrovsky (a great musician, artist, scientist and researcher), became the first collective in the world to combine genuine scientific study of folklore with professional performance, and folk music traditions with modern musical culture.
The ensemble school for the development of folk singing, based on the study of the traditional technology of sound production, is still one of a kind. The masterly possession of different folk singing styles, the organic combination of traditional and author's music using the principles of live improvisation is the visiting card of the Dmitry Pokrovsky Ensemble.
Each program of the Ensemble is a kind of musical performance, whether it is a question of classical works, spiritual or song-ritual music. Authentic folk costumes, songs, games and ceremonies brought by the ensemble artists from numerous folklore expeditions in Russia, allow the viewer to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a real folk culture.
Christmas time you, Christmas time (Subscription No. 15 "National calendar")
The ensemble of Dmitry Pokrovsky
Christmas time is the most mysterious, most beloved, one of the most fun and most important holidays in the national calendar. Christmas time, falling on the period of the winter solstice, most fully showed the deep connection of man with nature. The whole life of the peasant was connected with the cycle of the sun. Perhaps there is not a single nation on earth that has not celebrated, one way or another, these days.
Christmas time began with caroling on Christmas Eve. So called holiday rounds of houses with singing carols. The name "carol" itself has a Latin origin and is familiar to us from the modern word "calendar". In carols ("calendula", "tauseny", "oats", in the north "grapes") the owners of the house were famous and contained all kinds of good wishes. Everything that was said these days acquired a special meaning and strength, therefore people should have been cheerful and generous, tables rich, and words kind. At holy evenings, they praised Christ, sang special Christoslovakia and troparia - songs that told the story of the Nativity of Christ; children, youth and adults walked around the courtyards with stars (the pre-Christian sign of the sun), symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem, special crib performances were played.
The premiere of the Den of the Ensemble took place in 1980 at the Znamensky Cathedral on Varvarka in the program of sacred music. The author of the first set of dolls and a drawer was the famous puppeteer artist Sergei Tarakanov. The ensemble included the nativity scene in the program "Christmas time, 12+" and "Kolyada came" (6+), which annually presents to the audience on Christmas days.
In the Christmas program: crib, carols, games, Christmas fortune-telling, folk dramas, all the highlights of traditional Russian Christmas time.
