The play is based on the novel of the same name by one of the most discussed contemporary writers Evgeny Vodolazkin. This is the story of three friends from Munich - Ralph, Hans and Ernestine - who are trying to save their friendship and their love against the terrible backdrop of World War II. One of the heroes, a German soldier who reached Stalingrad, decades later returns to Russia to go this way again.
Sergei Sotnikov, director of the play: “It is important for us to be extremely honest in this story, because for our country, the Second World War is a matrix of pain. We still get out of it. But the story of Vodolazkin is about the human. If a person in the horrors of war remains a person, he is worthy of attention and sympathy. The story of people who were on the other side of the front. And here is a complicated look: how we Russians look at the Germans who look at us. ”
