Dostoevsky is the only Russian classic who never wrote plays. And yet, this is one of the most repertoire authors of the twentieth and the twenty-first century. His novels and novels are asked on the stage, they are so dynamic and expressive. In the repertoire of \"Workshop\" is \"Idiot. The Return, The Brothers Karamazov, Ivan and the Devil, The Meek, and now Crime and Punishment appears.
Andrei Gavryushkin, who made his debut in directing \"The Meek\" on the small stage of \"Workshop\", solves the complex polyphonic novel \"Crime and Punishment\", known to each of us from the school bench, in the format of a solo performance. Focusing on several days of Rodion Raskolnikov's life, the director suggests that we look at the rapidly unfolding plot through the eyes of the protagonist. The story of one murder turns into a story of the death of the soul. Searching for oneself, searching for God, searching for truth is something that in fact takes the poor student Raskolnikov, and with him the authors of the play.
Raskolnikov's monologue is a narrative-revelation, a confession story. Before our eyes, the hero goes from the birth of an insane idea to repentance at its very appearance. Rushing between light and darkness, surrounded by mirrors, multiplying his nightmare, Raskolnikov tries to comprehend the mystery of being, to curb his own destiny - and loses to himself.
