Lette, the protagonist of Mayenburg's play, a talented engineer, was told that he was a freak. That is why he cannot present his discovery at a certain congress, where - instead of him - his colleague will go. Lette decides to undergo plastic surgery, the consequences of which are completely unpredictable ...
The play by the German playwright Marius von Mayenburg could be called a comedy if it did not touch upon topics so painful for us. Who are we? Those whom others see in us? Or those that live inside us? What actions is a person capable of under the pressure of public opinion?
"Ugly" in Teatre.doc was created by theater actors, in the past - graduates of the Moscow School of New Cinema, Yuri Muravitsky's course, known for their roles in top performances of Teatre.doc: "24+", "A Man from Podolsk", "28 Days".
This performance is the directorial debut of actor Anton Ilyin. Many of Doc's viewers know him for his main roles in the performances "The Man from Podolsk" and "24 Plus".
The author of the play, Marius von Mayenburg, is called one of the main contemporary German playwrights. His plays are staged in the world's leading theaters.
In Russia, Mayenburg was first learned in 2001, when his play "The Fiery One" was presented at the NET International Festival, directed by the famous Lithuanian director Oskaras Koršunovas.
For two decades, the expansion of Mayenburg into Russia has expanded significantly. His play "The Apprentice" formed the basis for the film of the same name by Kirill Serebrennikov "The Apprentice" (and earlier - his performances "(M) Apprentice"). And even if this play was or is going on in other theaters, what we do in our performance bears the stamp of Doc. This is minimalism and asceticism of the performance - without the use of any decorations or video and audiophonograms. The story of a man who finds out that he is a freak is told without the help of any special effects with the most accurate transmission of the text.
Actors exist in the zero-position "zero", as M.Yu. Ugarov taught. There is no acting egocentrism in support of the text as such.
