To the 200th anniversary of the great poet, prose writer, playwright, artist, celebrated this fall, the theater prepared the premiere of the rarely going on the Russian stage romantic drama M.Yu. Lermontov - "Two brothers." This is the last of his 5 plays, it was written between 1834-1836.

In one of his letters to his friend S. Raevsky (January 16, 1836), Lermontov reports: "... I'm writing the fourth act of a new drama taken from an incident that happened to me in Moscow." In the White-stone poet was in late December 1835, traveling from St. Petersburg to Tarkhany, where he went on vacation. At that time the poet's youthful love lived here. Lopukhin, unexpectedly published in May 1835, married to N.F. Bakhmetev.

The drama "Two brothers" - about the youthful love of the brothers Alexander and Yuri Radin - passionate, freedom-loving young people - to the same woman named Vera, who unexpectedly married Prince Ligovsky. Both brothers rise above the cynical secular milieu, suffer from disappointments in love, jealousy, vulgarity and greed of others. Yuri is stern and straightforward, like the heroes of the early Lermontov dramas, while Alexander is secretive and cautious, disappointments in life and people made him vindictive and even cruel. The sharp relationship between brothers reminds the biblical parable of Cain and Abel. This painful coincidence worries their father Dmitri Petrovich Radin, a secular nobleman who, in his old age, suddenly became interested in the Bible.

The treatment of the play in the play is original: a feeling for a woman named Vera, is remelted in a "triangle" into a conscious movement toward faith in God.
