"The Little Humpbacked Horse" by P. Ershov is a fun and touching poetic tale about Ivanushka, a fool who conquers the hearts of children and adults with her naivety and innocence.
Once upon a time in a village there lived a peasant with his sons. Together they grew wheat, but one night someone began to trample crops. And then the father gave the order to watch every night and catch the pest. The older and middle brothers, although they were smarter, could not catch the robber. And Ivanushka managed to catch a snow-white mare frolicking on peasant fields. The mare asked to let her go, presenting two beautiful horses and a little assistant to the Humpbacked Horse.
Together with his brothers, Ivanushka went to the capital to sell wonderful horses, and along the way he found a feather of the Firebird, which, according to the Humpbacked Horse, would bring trouble, but he did not listen to him captivated by his beauty.
The Tsar himself buys Skakunov, and at the same time takes Ivan to his service. The envious Spalnik and the Guard were not happy about this, having decided to destroy Ivanushka with denunciations and intrigues. So the sleeping bag steals the feather of the Firebird and reports to the tsar with the report that he hid the groom from his Tsar's dear little thing, and also boasted that he could catch the bird itself. The angry tsar orders in a few days to deliver this miracle to the palace. Faithful Little Humpbacked Horse helps the owner cope with the task. And again Spelnik brings Ivan, as if he knows how to bring the beautiful Tsar-girl to the palace. Again the Tsar gives the order, and again the Little Humpbacked Horse helps the unlucky master.
It would seem that all the requirements of the Tsar were fulfilled by our hero, but it wasn’t there. Since the Tsar Maiden does not agree to marry the old man and demands that he be rejuvenated by bathing in boilers with cold water, boiled and boiling milk. The king was frightened, and the cunning Spalnik advised him to try this tool on Ivan. Once again, our hero helps the Little Humpbacked Horse, and an ordinary guy emerges from the boiler as a fine fellow. The king, without thinking twice, rushes into the cauldrons and dies, boiled in boiling water. Justice triumphed. Ivan becomes handsome and marries the Tsar Maiden.
