Young, beautiful and rich widow Kupavina dreams of happiness and love. She does not know what passions are boiling around her: her wealth, her estate, many do not give rest. The powerful landowner Murzavetskaya tries to take possession of the young widow, by deceit, forgery, intimidation, trying to subdue Kupavin.
Suddenly, from St. Petersburg, from the capital, comes a more calculating and intelligent man, who has long been attracted to both a pretty widow and her capitals - Berkutov. He enters into a decisive battle with cunning and swindlers - Murzavetska and her entourage, directing the course of action in the right direction, beneficial only to him.
This interpretation can be called quite free, but it should not be embarrassing, because thanks to the changes made, the director manages to solve the tasks set for himself and the artists. So, for example, the action is transferred for several decades ahead, in the first half of the XX century (whereas Ostrovsky refers to the 1870s).
According to the idea, the semantic accents change. Before us is not the landlord, the merchant world, well known by Ostrovsky's plays, but a new, some kind of conditional reality: the scenery is sustained in black, white and red colors, which undoubtedly can remind the viewer of the traditional colors of the German Empire; In the course of action, German songs and marches sound as if leading us away from Russia. At the same time, the viewer does not appear in Germany.
"Wolves and sheep" is an acute "actual antifascist and antireligious pamphlet", designed to understand what was said in it by the modern spectator.
The play hints at the viewer of many of the realities of our time and is, perhaps, a kind of warning before what can happen.

A wonderful game of the entire composition of artists (Khairullina, Matveev, Sexte, Ugryumov, Chipovskaya, Ilyin, Chepurchenko, Lenskaya, Fisenko, Paramonov, Fomin), an interesting decision by the director and the permanent artist L.
