Drama in two parts based on the play by the same name by Tennessee Williams
Mark Rozovsky about the play and play:
And here is Tennessee Williams - with his sensuality and frankness, or rather, with sensual frankness. The play "Tram" Desire "is a psychological hit, staged in New York at the end of 1947 with Marlon Brando (Stanley) and Jessica Tandy (Blanche), then, in 1951, turned into a terrific film in which Stanley played all that Marlon Brando, and Blanche - Vivien Leigh (directed by Elia Kazan). It is a classic of the art of the 20th century. Her place today is "At the Nikitsky Gate" after a lot of successful productions in Russian.
Yes, it was played in Russian, this play and we read it in Russian, because, thanks to its truth and humanity, it, like no other, appeals to compassion, empathy, sympathy, without which there is no real Russian art. In this sense, Tennessee Williams is the most Russian playwright among Americans, and I'm not the first to note this. His closeness to Chekhov is unquestionable, and I'm not the last who insists on it.
We made a story about love, about the impossibility of love and happiness because of the dissimilarity of temperaments and destinies, because of the irresistible difference between plebeianism, turning into animal brutality, and the desire for a refined but quirky, prone to fruitless fantasies of life. Between these two ways to live - Stella, no less a strong nature than the main characters. And Mitch - a kind of Chekhov-American "nerdot", helpless or exhausted from the surging from him unexpected sinful feelings. Through trifles of life, through quarrels and clarification of relationships, through extremes of behavior, up to rape, the main conflict of the play, in which there are no right and guilty ones, is erupted, and there are inescapable, passionate erotic drives and a huge, piercing human pain.
“ Great performance, thank you!
“ A wonderful performance ... I enjoyed myself. Throughout the performance, she scrolled moments of her life in her head and realized that the story of the two sisters would be very close. I highly recommend this production to everyone without exception!
“ Thank you, wonderful performance.
