In the framework of the XIV International Festival-School of Contemporary Art "Territory"
Opera by Boris Yukhananov and Dmitry Kurlyandskiy “Octavia. Trepanation ”is the first co-production experience of the Holland Festival and the Russian theater. The premiere of the opera took place as part of the main program of the anniversary Holland Festival in June 2017 on the stage of Muziekgebouw, Europe’s largest platform for the performance of contemporary music. “Octavia. Trepanation ”is a musically embodied reflection on the theme of violence and tyranny. The libretto of the opera is based on an essay by Leon Trotsky about Lenin (1924) and fragments of the play attributed to Seneca about the Roman emperor Nero.
For the Russian premiere, which will be held in October 2019 at the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre, a special version of the opera has been created, which is a unique example of an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of current music, installation and theater.
