POP-UP THEATER, ST. PETERSBURG
Based on interviews with David Yan
The play was written in the framework of the project Man.doc, initiated by Eduard Boyakov and Alexei Paperny.
The hero of the performance of Semyon Aleksandrovsky is David Yang, the creator of Abbyy, the developer of electronic dictionaries Lingvo and the pioneer of flash mobs in Russia. Evgeni Kazachkov's documentary play was written on the basis of many hours of talks with Jan himself, the only character of "Fuel". Verbatim opens the theater the opportunity to focus on the inner world of man, on the dramaturgy of his life. Jan in the format of the lecture talks about his admission to the physical, about the adventure with the first electronic dictionary, about how a professional life paralleled with a personal one. The output is a story about the search for the meaning of life, about the thirst for immortality, about how to change the world for the better. Fragments of flash mobs initiated by Jan are interspersed in the narrative fabric: Flashmob as an irrational action aimed at deforming the habitual reality is rhymed with the theme of the decisive election.
Maxim Fomin, playing Yana, turns to the audience, but sometimes to his own copy, which comes to life on the screen. The image of Yang is twofold, threefold, illustrating not only the complexity of human nature, but also the capabilities of the intellect, which changes consciousness through technology.
