The performance of "Zoykin flat" based on the play by MA Bulgakova - one of the first director works of the USSR People's Artist T.V. Doronina, carried out by her as artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater. M. Gorky. She also performed in the title role. The premiere was held back in 1989 now, and Zoykina’s apartment remained in the theater repertoire for a long time, enjoying success with the audience. Almost three decades later, the performance returned to the stage, restored by V.V. Klementyev and M.V. Kabanov
The action of “Zoykina’s apartment” plunges us into the distant and turbulent years of the NEP: a breakdown in the public consciousness, the fate of people who have been thrown to the side of life. Criminality and hangouts, drug dealers and prostitutes, devilish whirlpool of profit - all this is just a social background for human loneliness, emotional morals.
The revolution, which brought up not the best people on the crest of life, taught them to be active “nepmans”, nevertheless failed in those years of troubles to solve the main problem - the proper dispensation of human relations. The director of the play, leaving Bulgakov's poignant journalism, is nevertheless focused on the problem of man: what is he, why does he live, what does he see the meaning of life?
