Not a child: fathers and children find out the relationship by the methods of the XXI century. Old men do not belong here: the Russian version. Do not be afraid of a man with a gun - he will protect you.
Laureate of the Golden Mask Award, the most important figure of Novodram's “zero years”, directed by Ruslan Malikov on the stage of the Moscow Art Academic Theater. M. Gorky explores the theme of the conflict of generations. In the theater, the play “Fathers and Sons” based on the novel by Ivan Turgenev, which opened this theme in Russian and world literature, is going on with great success. The play of the Belarusian playwright Ivan Serf, laureate of Russian and international competitions, brings up the same story in the cruel realities of our days.
The name of the play does not accidentally refer to a television show popular in the 2000s. The protagonist of the play is a retired missile officer, the last sentinel of the collapsed Soviet empire. Due to a conflict with his son, the old man and his wife run away to an abandoned missile unit. But here it is faced with a generation of "sons." First, reenactor-animators shamelessly break into his life - clowns in pseudo-historical costumes serving official events. And then on all of them begin to hunt militants from the youth group, preaching the "cleansing" of society from the homeless, alcoholics, the elderly. Three generations correspond to three different ways of stage existence: the realism of the Soviet psychological theater, the documentaryism of the new drama of the “zero” and the corporal expressionism popular today in the spirit of the German theater.
The generation of "fathers" - the main victim of post-Soviet times. Unlike their predecessors of past epochs, they did not just have their privileges and means of subsistence taken away - their very existence was declared devoid of meaning. To preserve human dignity in these conditions is in itself a feat. “The Last Hero” is a performance about human dignity, about the drama of the older generation, about the courage of humiliated and discarded people, about love, loyalty and duty. He inherits the best traditions of Russian classics, prose of Soviet writers, "peasants", the legendary performance of the Moscow Art Theater "Solo for a clock with a fight", Stanislav Govorukhin's film "Voroshilovsky Shooter".
The Moscow Art Theater of the time of Konstantin Stanislavsky began as a theater of modern play. Plays of his contemporaries formed the basis of the repertoire. Today's classics of world drama were discovered by the founders of the Moscow Art Theater. The Moscow Art Theater intends to follow this line further: to preserve and restore the historical productions of the past, to work with today's reality, to discover new names.
