The Theater of Novel Viktyuk presents the main premiere of the season - the play "Phaedra"
The tragedy of loneliness and an extraordinary soul, composed by Marina Tsvetaeva, inspires Roman Viktyuk for more than thirty years. One of the best performances of the 80's, his legendary "Phaedra" at the Taganka Theater with Alla Demidova in the title role made the director a symbol of a new theater direction.
And today, in the 21st century, a great poetic work returns to the stage in a completely new reading of the Master. "Phaedra" as a synthesis of the word, music, rhythm, choreography, gesture and mimicry - all that forms the modern scenic handwriting of Viktyuk. It was well known in the theater of the "Silver Age" of Blok's time with his "Rose and the Cross", the time of the Studios of the young Tairov and Vakhtangov, with whom Tsvetaeva was connected in the most direct way. "Phaedra" in 2015 revives the traditions of the Silver Age of the Russian stage, "Comedians' Coming" and "Ancient Theater" Evreinov with imitation of various forms of theatricality - from antiquity to postmodernity ...
Viktyuk and the actors of his theater read the "Fedra" Tsvetaeva in the spirit of the game mythological studio theater. According to the words of Roman Grigorievich himself: "The half-dance, half-pen, half-gin, semi-erotic are conceived as a background and source of tragic events".
Without retelling the content of the tragedy, we recall that we are talking about the struggle of the main character with a pernicious passion for the stepson of Hippolytus, which Aphrodite planted in her heart, wanting to take revenge on the Athenian king, the husband of Phaedra Thesa for betraying the goddess of love. In the most love affliction to the stepson, sent by Aphrodite, Phaedra is only an innocent victim, as she spoke in Tsvetaeva's notebooks.
